Buildertrend pricing, and what a local builder actually needs

Buildertrend publishes its plans on its own site, and those plans have changed over the years. So we won’t quote numbers here that could be out of date. What we can do is help you figure out what you’re paying for, and what running a local building company should cost.

By the Before The Build team · Updated

How Buildertrend pricing works, in general

Buildertrend sells tiered plans, with more of the product included as you move up a tier. The tiers are built around project management: scheduling, daily logs, budgets, subs and vendors, change orders, selections, and the homeowner’s view of the job. Sales features such as lead tracking and proposals are part of the package too.

For current plan names, prices, what each tier includes, and any onboarding or setup costs, check Buildertrend’s site or ask their sales team directly. Get it in writing, because it will be the basis of your comparison.

Questions to ask any vendor about price

These apply to Buildertrend, to us, and to anyone else you’re considering:

  • Per user or flat? A per-seat price looks small until you add every salesperson, the design coordinator, and the office.
  • Which features are on which tier? Make sure the thing you’re buying it for is on the plan you’re quoted.
  • What does onboarding cost, and who does the work? “Self-serve setup” means your team builds the templates on nights and weekends.
  • Are your contract templates included? If the tool can’t produce your actual documents, you’ll still be in Word.
  • What does the CRM connection cost? Some integrations are extra, some need a third-party connector.
  • Monthly or annual, and how do you cancel? Know the commitment before you sign.

What a local builder needs

A local builder selling homes on lots needs the sale and the build handled well, without paying for three tools that don’t talk to each other:

  1. Win the buyer: leads in one place, texts from your number, tours booked, follow-ups that send themselves.
  2. Sign the deal: the lot reserved, the home priced from your price sheet, your contract filled in and signed online.
  3. Pick the finishes with your cost and margin visible to you and hidden from the buyer.
  4. Build the home: schedules, daily logs, change orders, trade partners, budgets and draws, and a page for the buyer.

A first-year number you can hold us to

Using only our published prices, here is what the first year costs, onboarding included:

  • Monthly billing: $397 × 12 + $1,500 onboarding = $6,264.
  • Annual billing: $3,970 + $1,500 onboarding = $5,470.
  • Founding rate, monthly: $297 × 12 + $1,500 onboarding = $5,064. Open to the first 10 builders, locked for life, in exchange for a case study.

Extra contract templates beyond the three included are $350 each. We don’t add processing fees: online deposits go straight to your own Stripe account.

Don’t pay for three tools

The fair comparison isn’t one subscription against another. It’s everything you pay for today: project software, a CRM, an e-signature service, a texting app, and the hours your team spends retyping a buyer’s name between them. Before The Build covers all of it on one record for one flat price.
